WRITING (Emails)

1. Read the email. What happened to Clare? Why can't she go out? (Đọc email. Điều gì đã xảy ra với Clare? Tại sao cô ấy không thể ra ngoài?)

Answer:

- Clare had an accident. She broke her leg while she was skiing.

- She can't go out because she had an operation. Now she is lying in bed with her leg in the air, so she can't move.

2. Study the Key Phrases. Which pharases go at the begining and which go at the end of an email? (Nghiên cứu các Cụm từ chính. Cụm từ nào bắt đầu và cụm từ nào ở cuối email?)

 Answer:

- Cụm từ bắt đầu: "How's it going?"; "Guess what?"

- Cụm từ kết thúc: " Thanks for your email"; "Take care and write back soon"

Laguage point: Reason and result

3. Look at the words in blue in the text. Which word introduces a reason? Which one introduces a result? (Nhìn vào các từ có màu xanh lam trong văn bản. Từ nào giới thiệu lý do? Từ nào giới thiệu kết quả?)

Answer:

- "Because" => introduces a reason.

- "so" => introduces a result.

4. Complete the sentences with because or so. (Hoàn thành các câu với "because" hoặc "so")

Answer:

1. I can't play football today because I've sprained my ankle.

2. I cut my hand badly today so my mum took me to hospital.

3. I fell off my bike so now I have a big bruise on my arm.

4. I couldn't see because I wasn't wearing my glasses.

5. I'm bored because my computer isn't working.

Hi Hoa,

Thanks for your email. How's it going? Is everything ok? 

I am so sorry because I can't attend our presentation on Friday. I had an accident while I was camping by the sea yesterday. I was swimming with some friends when suddenly I got a cramp. At that time I was very scared, I struggled and cried out loudly. By the time I was brought ashore, I had almost passed out and no longer knew anything. Then they took me to the emergency room at a nearby medical station. After about 2 hours, I regained consciousness and I am currently being cared for in the recovery room. Thinking back at that time, I was still very scared, I thought I was drowned by water. The doctor said that I will have to stay in the hospital for the next 3 days to fully recover. I am very sad because I can't go to class.
